jake isnt oblivious

he just doesnt live by your usual social norms

he has his living-on-an-island-by-himself social norms which are just completely DIFFERENT because he was brought up by his already-eccentric grandma and a dog

so my point is that he doesnt get nervous about the same things, but other times when WE (as in dirk and the other alpha kids because they live in a normal society) dont think much of something, jake freaks out and asks what the hell we’re doing

also all he really knows about normal human relationships comes from movies, and you know what hollywood is like. its dramaticized, so its natural that jake is very melodramatic, and given his naturally excited/energetic personality, it just intensifies that fact and it may overwhelm others at first
